Competition Obedience

Classes for those dog and handler teams desiring advanced training in dog obedience for AKC/CKC and other competition style obedience venues.

   
 
Cruise Control

The goal of this class is to teach "power steering" to the handler and dog team , as well as the gift of teamwork. This class builds on skills learned in Attention and Attention Responsibility by reinforcing the understanding of proper heel position and the impact our our body language when working with our dogs. Requires successful completion of Attention Responsibility.

 

Novice – Companion Dog (CD) Title

These classes include precision on and off leash heeling, including changing pace and Figure 8’s; standing for exam, recalls with fronts and finishes, and group sit and down exercises. Requires successful completion of Cruise Control.

Open – Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) Title

Instruction includes perfecting off-leash heeling exercise with Figure 8; dropping dog on recall, dumbbell retrieves over a solid jump and without a jump, broad jump, and out of sight group sits and downs. Emphasis is on perfecting basics as well as furthering the development of dog and handler as a team.

Utility – Utility Dog (UD) Title

Instruction includes Heeling with signals only to heel, stay, down, sit, recall (come) and finish; scent discrimination with metal and leather articles; directed retrieve for a glove; moving stand for exam; and directed jumping.


 
Rally

Rally is a sport, held in conjunction with Obedience, in which the dog and handler complete a course of sequentially numbered directional signs (10 - 20 depending on the level). The dog and handler team heel from sign to sign and perform the exercises indicated on the sign at each location. This class includes discussing and practicing the various stations and designing courses to run. Requires successful completion of Advanced Puppy or Advanced Beginner.
