Nose work (also called scent work) is scent detection work for household pets modeled after working canines. Dogs are trained to search and find the essential oils of birch, anise and clove during indoor, outdoor, vehicle and container searches. The sport is fast becoming popular around the world and several organizations now offer titling opportunities, including the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW™), Performance Scent Dogs (PSD) and American Kennel Club (AKC). The AKC Scent Work trials include buried hides and handler discrimination. PSD trials include speed and distance.
