Remembering OUR Pups who have crossed the bridge
RIDGELINE’S BEAMER STEAMER6/7/2008 – 7/8/2020Ridgeline’s Beamer Steamer changed my life forever. He was born on June 7, 2008
(an easy date to remember 6-7-8). His father was Stanley Steamer who had titles on both ends of his name. I picked him as he was the calmest of the very active litter. Apparently he was just resting as he turned out to be VERY energetic. He had lots of drive. My previous dogs had been quite easy to train but I soon found out I needed to change my methods. He was always the worst out of control dog on the first day of class but was always the most improved at graduation. He took each class at least twice. My dog training library was expanding weekly as I searched for help. Act members tolerated and were very helpful to me as we progressed thru adolescence. We experienced many NQ’s (I like to call them “Not Quites”) along the way. There were several embarrassing moments, but he finally taught me how to train him in a positive and fun way. He was my mentor and I was the student. Along this very bumpy journey, I grew to love him very deeply. We did manage to get one Utility leg in his obedience career. His Nose Work career was different. It was fun and very rewarding for both of us. He received many placements and even got a High in Trial in a Performance Scent Dog event. Besides his love for food, he loved to dig. The back yard was his territory so he was able to dig wherever he wanted. There were holes along the fence, in the raspberry bushes and in the center of the yard (his largest digging achievement). He loved an audience to watch him while he did his excavation. Whenever anyone would come out on the deck he’d head to his hole to dig. When we couldn’t see him in the yard he was usually down in the hole digging. Our world was fun and exciting. We were happy and content with life and then came the vet appointment in which a grapefruit size lump was discovered on his left leg joint. How could we not have seen it. To make a painful story short, he had his left leg amputated. The pathology report came back as Hemangiosarcoma (a deadly cancer). We did two chemo treatments that might have added time to his life. With Covid-19 restrictions, I started working at home. Most of my time was spent making sure my boy was comfortable. When the snow melted, we had many treasured moments playing and relaxing in our back yard. On July 7th, he received his angel wings. I want to thank everyone who has helped me with Beamer. I called us the Beam Team. He will live forever in the hearts of Shari (his buddy), Nike (his canine companion) and myself (Karen Paulson Perham, his human mom.) |
Karrelene's Winter Solstice JH, CGC "Kalee"3/20/2011-12/16/2019My fourth Gordon Setter, Kalee was not my performance dog (except for birds!) but she was my running/hiking partner and our traveling girl. She came to us at 9 months old and logged well over 50,000 miles in our camper van traveling the country camping, visiting/making friends and keeping us company. She never met a person or dog she didn't like and was the sweetest girl ever. Best big sister and mentor to Jago, cancer took her from us way too soon. Run free, sweet Kalee! Judy Alderson

"RAVEN" SunriseAugust 29, 2004, Sunset July 23, 2020CH Nicholar's Soul Survivor CD, RAE, HT, MXP4, MXPB, MJP3, MJPB, PAX, OFP, THD, EAC, OJC, TN-E, TG-O, OCC, CWCCA-VCX (CWCCA "Champion of the Hearts" award in 2011)
We said a final farewell to my precious Rae Rae on July 23rd. She ALMOST made it to 16 yrs old, so as far as I'm concerned she was 16. Raven was my stud fee puppy from my dear departed BFF Kat Seube's breeding in 2004. Raven finished her CH at 11 mos old. We then went on to training and competing over the years in obedience, rally, agility, herding, and our favorite and most rewarding activity as a registered Pet Partners Therapy Dog team (2006 thru 2018). Raven made Alaska "Cardigan Welsh Corgi" milestones..... The first AK Cardi to earn a Herding Title. The first AK Cardi to earn ANY Rally titles, and ONLY one with an RAE (Rally Advanced Exc) title. The first AK Cardi (and only to date) to earn a PAX agility title, AND be invited to the AKC Agility Championship competition (2012). The Dam (Mom) of the only (to date) AK bred, owned, handled all breed "Best In Show" Cardigan Welsh Corgi "Zoe" (GRCHB Nicholar's De Novo of Belukha HT). Raven was the BEST partner in everything we did together. I look back on all the 40+ titles we achieved together and think Holy Moly! Raven and I did all of that together? I feel truly blessed to have had Raven as an amazing Cardigan partner and family member for almost 16 years! RIP my precious Rae Rae. |
"Inde"8/22/2002 - 5/1/2017Nuka Bay’s Independence Mine
Owned and Loved by Lynda Barber-Wiltse was my heart dog… I hadn’t planned to keep her as a puppy, but a good friend thought I should. A very fortunate breeder’s decision. Together we competed in multiple AKC Agility Invitationals, one Obedience Invitational, one Agility Championship, and numerous other venues. Above all - she was my constant companion. She stretched me as a trainer and made friends around the country and the world and was a great ambassador for our beloved breed. MACH. "Niki"1/05/2008 - 4/25/2017Nuka Bay Tok's Nikolai Creek
Owned and loved by Lynda Barber-Wiltse Niki was my silly girl. She had a toothy grin and had quite a fan club (even outside of the Chesapeake world) Niki “let” me earn her CDX … but made it clear that she was not following in her mother Inde’s footsteps. Niki (and KACH) had two nice litters - fortunately I have Koy (1st litter) and Deshka and Nelchina (2nd litter) to carry on (in their own ways!!) my Inde and Niki legacy. I still can’t believe I lost daughter Niki and mother Indea within a week of each other. "Blaze"11/25/06 - 04/12/21Some Like it Hot CDX RAE CGC
Weighing in at just 7 pounds Blaze was Yvette Reynolds first dog she trained. According to Yvette, Blaze was very receptive to training and his enthusiasm helped win "High in Trial" in earning his Novice Obedience title and many high combined ribbons in Rally. He earned his CDX title in obedience and had a leg toward his utility title before health issues forced him from competition. In Rally he had 2 legs toward his masters title. Blaze proved to be valuable in other ways in Yvette's life alerting her when she was struggling with Sleep Apnea issues. He also had the ability to sense earthquakes before they could be felt by humans. Yvette has fond memories of watching him try to figure out how things worked like the air conditioning in her father's house. Yvette notes that the loss of Blaze has been very hard for her but she is so happy to have had the time with him and the journey they had together. |
